Another Failure

On Saturday I went and did my one hour glucose tolerance test as well as other lab work to make sure I did not have gestational diabetes. Since my doctor told me to behave before having the lab work drawn, I have been doing pretty good decreasing the amount of sweets as well as omitting my one soda a day that I normally drink. I was praying that I would not fail the glucose test like I did with Camden, but honestly did not have a great feeling about it. Well, I finally got up the nerve to contact the doctor's office today to follow up on my test and don't you know I failed the darn thing again. They want your glucose to be less than 140 one hour after drinking the lovely orange soda, but mine was 166. Not that it is any consolation, but when I failed this test with Camden, it was 178. So, now I have to go through the 3 hour glucose tolerance test, which I am dreading like the plague! I did ask if I could wait until our spring break so as not to miss work while enduring the test and she felt that should be fine. Not that I have any control over this test, but can I tell you I HATE to fail - it just really does not settle well with me at all.

On a positive note, my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) which was low at the beginning of my pregnancy was in range and my Vitamin D level was somewhat improved, but still on the low end. So, if you think about it, say a little prayer that I can pass my 3 hour glucose tolerance test and avoid all the 'stuff' that goes along with it!

Go Texan Day

In honor of the rodeo being in Houston, today was Go Texan Day at Camden's school. Now mind you Camden has no 'cowboy gear' in his closet so I had no idea what he was going to wear. Yesterday as we were leaving school Ms. Caroline said they would have bandannas for the kids to wear and just suggested that they wear a t-shirt as well as jeans. So, I searched and found a plain type shirt for him to wear and put on his jeans and tennis shoes (yes, tennis shoes - so not country). After he got some added additions at school, I think we have a very cute cowboy!

Little Funnies

Camden talks up a storm (guess he gets that honestly) and sometimes he says some things that absolutely crack me up. Everyday we drive home from school we pass by our local Wal-Mart. Right now they have these metal pipe contraptions set up which they have their hanging flower pots on. As we drove by today, Camden looked at them and said, "The flowers are swinging!" Well, yes, I guess they technically are.

At school, Camden calls his teachers Ms. Avonda and Ms. Caroline. Sometimes when he talks about his friends he will put Ms. in front of their names and I tell them that he doesn't have to put Ms. in front of their names. Today, as we pulled up in the driveway, Shane was standing in the garage waiting for us and when Camden saw him, he all of the sudden yelled out, "There's Mr. Daddy!" Crack me up!

Appointment - 24 Weeks

Today I had my 24 week appointment and as with my previous appointment, I was petrified to get on the scale - and rightfully so. I gained 5 pounds which puts my weight gain up to 17 pounds. Luckily my doctor did not say anything to me, but she really didn't have to, I feel guilty enough. The baby's heart rate was 140 bpm and I measured great. Sometime in the next week I will be doing lab work for the hour glucose test as well as a TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) and Vitamin D. I pray all of these tests come out normal. I am a bit concerned regarding the glucose test since I failed this one with Camden, but she recommended I not eat desserts for a week prior to the test as well as no eating out so as to avoid fatty, fried foods to help make sure I pass. Does she realize who she is talking to requesting no desserts for a week?? I think I will still have to have my two chocolate chip cookies at lunch - that is something that just helps me through the work day!

The First Purchase

Today Lisa came into town and we had a little girl time - which I just LOVE!!! We went and had manicures and pedicures, ate some lunch and then did a little shopping. As usual, I had a great time laughing and catching up with her.

While we were shopping, I picked up an outfit and shirt for the baby. I was looking for something new to bring him home from the hospital in, which is not what I found, but I thought the outfit I got was fitting.

Honestly, it did not dawn on me until Lisa and I were shopping that I need to buy some short sleeved outfits for him. I had in my head that I was all prepared in the clothes department for him, but that is soooo not the case since Camden was born during the winter and this little guy will be born in the summer! I guess I have more shopping to do!!!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!!! Camden had a Valentine's party at school today and let me just say he came home with lots of Valentine's as well as goodies. For lunch, one of the mom's who works at his daycare and has a child in Camden's room, volunteered to run to McDonald's for lunch to pick up Happy Meals for the kiddos. That was a good surprise and treat for Camden! After lunch they had their Valentine's party which consisted of lots of goodies!

All his loot!
Now for a little baby update, I have been feeling the baby move since I was 15 weeks along. I have attempted to let Camden feel him move, but every time I get Camden by me, the little guy quits moving. This evening as I was sitting on the couch and feeling him move, it hit me that he had the hiccups. I quickly called Camden over to feel, and he was finally able to feel the baby.

Pretty in Pink - Again!

Camden's class is celebrating Valentine's this week and today they had fun playing with shaving cream in their water table. In keeping with the theme, the shaving cream was of course dyed pink. Let's just say, I am beginning to wonder about my child and pink!!! He again had pink hair as well as pink on his arms. Ms. Caroline told me that Camden's friends thought it was funny that he had shaving cream on his head, so they helped him and added more to it. Do we have a class clown on our hands????

Fun with shaving cream!

What a mess!

How about that hair - shaving cream added some 'texture'

Two Year Appointment

Today was Camden's two year check-up. Due to our schedules, Shane was the one in charge of taking him to his appointment. Now, I always have mixed emotions about not taking Camden to the doctor because being a nurse, a mom and having OCD, I always want to know exactly what the doctor said. But, then again, Shane is a great dad and if I give him a list of questions to ask the doctor, he will do so. Today Camden was seeing a pediatrician we have seen before while our original pediatrician, Dr. Taylor, was out on medical leave, but after receiving news a month or so ago that she was not returning to the practice, we had to pick a new doctor. I picked Dr. Worrall for Camden to start using as his pediatrician because when we saw him once before he seemed to really make Camden feel at ease and was thorough. Now let me insert here, that one small part of me was glad it was Shane taking Camden because I totally assumed he was getting a shot today - WRONG!!!! Shane got off easy - it literally was just a check up with lots of questions as to what Camden was doing developmentally, which he didn't miss a one and to get his measurements. Well let me tell you, after my child being less than tenth percentile over a year of his life, today's findings were VERY exciting. He weighed 29 pounds 12.7 ounces which placed him in the 72nd percentile for weight and 36.5 inches which placed him in the 93rd percentile for height. Dr. Worrall told Shane he felt that if Camden continued to progress as he was that he should be about 6 feet 2 inches tall. I personally think he will be a bit taller than that, but of course only time will tell.

So of course Camden will now be drinking 2% milk but other than that no real changes!!! Granted we definitely need to start drinking out of a cup (which has not happened probably due to mommy's laziness) as well as getting Camden to use the potty, but that is a huge work in progress! That along with moving into big boy furniture in the near future has Camden facing some big changes. Of course, I will keep you posted!

Happy 2nd Birthday Camden

Happy Birthday Camden!!!!

Today is Camden's 2nd birthday and of course what better thing to do to celebrate than have a party! This years theme, after much deliberation, was Elmo. Both sets of grandparents were in attendance, as well as Shawn, Melissa, Mason, Braden and Connor. Since there were balloons, cake and ice cream Camden was pretty much in hog heaven. Of course being able to spend time playing with Connor, Mason and Braden was a bonus too! He received lots of clothes, money and toys!!! Many thanks to my mom for making Camden's birthday cake and also for helping me prepare for the party!

Birthday Celebration at School

Today was Camden's birthday celebration at his school. I had been reminded weeks prior by his teachers that I needed to make a birthday poster for his class that would hang in his classroom all month. For those of you who know me I am just not a crafty person, but luckily with the help of my sister's Cricut, I was able to make what I considered a cute poster.

After the icing fiasco on Wednesday, I decided to go a different route than cake or cupcakes. I decided on Double Doozies from the Great American Cookie Company, and luckily they seemed to be a hit. Camden was thrilled with his 'Birthday Cake Cake' or better known as his birthday crown and wore it a great part of the evening after getting home from school.

Big Boy Potty and Pretty in Pink

I am one proud momma today. Before I continue, let me just say that I realize this means nothing and we still have a long road ahead of us, but I still have to share!!! Today at school, Camden used the big boy potty!!! YEA!!!! There are 5 children in his class that are pretty much potty trained and he likes to go to the bathroom with them when they go. Generally he just goes to observe I guess, but today he decided he would use the potty himself. Ms. Caroline said it scared him half to death after he did it and he fell in, but he did it. I couldn't believe it because the best we can do here at home is sit on the potty with our clothes on. Lets pray this is the beginning of something great because I would LOVE for him to be potty trained by the time baby brother arrives!

Now for a funny. Camden has a set of girl twins in his class and today was there birthday. Their mother brought a Hello Kitty cake that was surrounded by pink cupcakes. Well let me just say that my child apparently LOVED his cupcake. Ms. Caroline said that he was the only child in his class who ate every bit of his cupcake including all of the icing.

While eating the cupcake he got icing on his bib. He decided to take his bib off without help and got pink icing all in his hair. Ms. Caroline tried to wash it out, but as you can see from the picture, it didn't work out very well. He ended up with pink hair, a pink face, pink hands and pink clothes - in other words, he was pretty in pink!
