A Wet Halloween

After a long evening of anticipation, the boys FINALLY got to go and trick or treat this evening. It has been a rainy afternoon that carried on into the evening/night. The boys headed out with umbrellas in tow to score some candy. Despite the rain and getting wet, it was a fun and memorable time.

Both my boys picked a costume of a 'dark' character. So long are the days of them dressing up as something cute and fun. The upside to having masks though is I don't have to worry if they are smiling or not for their pictures.

was poured out.
Despite the rain, they received a lot of candy and had a great time!

A Parade Kind of Day

Yesterday, Casen had his alphabet parade at school. He picked the letter D and decided he wanted to be a dinosaur. Now we were going to be all creative and buy a hoodie and put spikes down the back of it, however life got in the way, so we ordered a costume instead that somewhat resembled a dinosaur. Either way, he was thrilled with his outfit.

Today, Camden had storybook parade and he wanted to be a soccer player. There are plenty of soccer books, however he chose to be resemble Ronaldo, one of the greatest soccer players to ever live.

Of course, due to their parades being held mid-morning, neither Shane or I were able to attend, however they boys said they had fun.

Light the Night

Tonight I had the privilege of attending the Light the Night walk in the Woodlands with several friends of mine from work. Light the Night walks are held by the Leukemia and Lymphoma society and are a celebration of light to drive out the darkness of cancer. Since I have been working at Hamilton Middle School the past 6 years, we have had 5 students diagnosed with leukemia and one with lymphoma. Those numbers are strikingly high and luckily they are finally researching our area to figure out why we have such high numbers in a small area. I have mapped out where those kids live in our district and they all live within a 2 mile radius of one another - quiet interesting and scary I must say.

There are three different colored lanterns that you see at Light the Night. They first ask those that are carrying a yellow lantern in remembrance of someone they have lost to leukemia or lymphoma to raise their lantern. They then ask the survivors who are carrying a white torch to raise their lantern, and then those that are there to support family or friends raise their red torch. It really is eye opening to see how many have lost the fight and amazing to see how many have won the fight.

Grace (far right) was one of my students and has been
cancer free for several years.

Trey (one of my current students)
is currently fighting his battle
against Leukemia.
Trey and his mom Jennifer, who is
an awesome advocate for Leukemia.

After they honor the people affected by Leukemia or Lymphoma, you then walk a mile while carrying your lantern. It truly is a beautiful site. If you ever have the opportunity to attend one of these events, it is really an eye opening and meaningful experience.

The Toothchest

Today Camden lost tooth #7 at school. The tooth has been loose for what seems like months, however  it really had loosened up over the past week. Last weekend, Camden had told me that he wanted to lose his tooth at school so that he could get a tooth chest from the nurse. I told him I had a ton of them at school so he requested I bring a blue one home for him, which I did on Tuesday.

Today he was soooo excited because he did indeed lose his tooth at school and obtained a tooth chest from Nurse Bambi. I guess her tooth chest is more exciting than mine. . .

One Day This Will Be Funny

I spend a great deal of time posting the great things about my children, frankly because that is what I like to think about. All the good things about them. But let's face it, they have some not so pretty sides to them. Truth be told, don't we all. So, today I am going to share about the rough week Mr. Casen has had in hopes that one day I can look back at this and just laugh.

Yesterday was picture day. Now if you know my kids, they are always in athletic wear - some type of Nike, Under Armour or Adidas shirt and shorts. For me, that is not acceptable for picture day, so I dressed them in a nice Polo shirt, which frankly they have worn possibly two other times. They looked oh so handsome as they walked out the door for the day. Upon arrival from their day at school, I notice that Casen has cut marks on the left sleeve of his shirt. What the heck? When I question him as to what happened to his shirt, he looked at it like he had never even noticed it and said, "I have no idea!!!" I of course asked him if he cut his shirt, to which he emphatically told me he did not. I asked him if they had used scissors that day at school, to which he replied, "Well, not hardly." So I gave him a minute (or perhaps I gave myself a minute) before I questioned him further because clearly he did not see this to be a huge issue. So I said to him that it was quite obvious that he had cut his own shirt as scissors just do not miraculously fly around the room and get up under his sleeve and makes cuts on his shirt. I gave him one more opportunity to fess up to me if he did indeed cut his shirt, and finally he admitted he did. GRRRRR!!!!!!

Unfortunately, this was not his only issue of the day. Upon cleaning out his folder, I received this sad note from his Music teacher.

I must say, I find it a bit funny that he went back to his spot and started dancing because anyone that knows Casen knows that boy LOVES to sing and dance.

Now the next night, Shane was finishing up laundry and asked me what I wanted to do with Casen's cut up shirt. I told him I could re-hem the sleeve and he could still wear it. Shane then asked me how I would fix the collar of his shirt. What????? There was something wrong with the collar too???? Oh yes, yes there was. Low and behold, my child had some how managed to cut a 'V' shaped piece of the back of his collar out. Someone, please tell me how this happened??????

Unfortunately, by then end of the week, Casen's week had not improved. As you can see from his calendar, he has had a rough go. Between the shirt incident as well as the write ups, he no longer has his iPad. If this doesn't do the trick, I am thinking since he really does not like to write or color, the punishment that we may have to try next with him is old school writing lines.

Moving on Up

The past several weeks have been painful in regards to Camden's soccer games. After him having a rough start due to his anxiety, he unfortunately was placed on the lowest 9U team. Talk about a disappointment for not only him, but us since last season he was hand picked for 'the' 9U team. However due to the way they restructured things, they ended up with a lot of 9U boys, some with great ability, and some with no ability. His team has lost miserably and literally only 3 or 4 boys on the team have a clue while the rest can't even kick the ball when it comes to them or you have the whiner/crier who stands in the middle of the field and yells "Kick me the ball!!!" in a whiny voice, however, he has no idea what to do with the ball when he gets it. It is not only frustrating for us as parents, but for Camden too. To go from playing on a team that plays with form and you can pass the ball to other players, to what we have experienced the past two weeks has just been plain unenjoyable. Truthfully, it has caused undue stress in our home.

Thankfully, this week we received an email from Camden's head soccer coach and they have now split 9U into 3 teams. It is painfully obvious that there are a handful of boys that are rather clueless, so they made another team this week and we now have a gold, silver and bronze team. Camden has moved up to the silver team. He has definitely settled in while playing soccer and has been playing hard. Luckily, the coach noticed that. They moved a few of the boys up to the gold, and then some of the boys from the bronze, up to the silver and left the others on the bronze. It made today's game sooooo much more enjoyable. Camden is now playing with his friends and they won! They played with a formation on the field and there was even passing going on (imagine that). For the first time all season, Camden was back playing with a smile on his face. Boy how I have missed that smile!

Camden and Cole G. - love those smiles!

Shane's 43rd Birthday

Today we celebrated Shane turning 43. Shane always asks the boys what kind of cake they want for his birthday, and they chose the same cake as last year, Mint Chocolate Chip.

Of course, as with any other gift giving event, he asked for Alabama athletic wear. Roll Tide!
