My Little Artist

Several weeks ago we received a note from Camden's art teaching telling us that Camden had 'Painted Lines' artwork which had been chosen to be displayed at the Tomball Independent School District Fine Arts Festival. How exciting!!! Camden loves to draw and we like to think that he is a pretty good little artist. He was beside himself that his artwork was chosen to be displayed, as were we.

Today we made our way to Tomball High School to see exactly which piece of art was displayed, as Camden could not recall which piece was 'Painted Lines'. After viewing art from all the schools in the district, ages K-12, we finally found Camden's. From what we could tell, there were probably between 15 to 20 pieces of varying type of Kindergarten artwork from his school. What an honor for one of his pieces to be chosen.

The Puffin Expert

Today, the parents were invited to attend the Animal Museum at Camden's school. Camden has been working on a research project for several weeks now and today we would see the final product of all his hard work.

When we arrived to his classroom, each student was standing beside their trip-fold display board ready to tell all the visitors about the animal they each were experts about. Camden chose the puffin to do his project on. We have spent a lot of time learning about the puffin so that he could work on his project at school. I was very proud of how well his project turned out. He was very excited that he had "16 customers" come by his exhibit so he could inform them all about his puffins!

Soccer Season Comes to a Close and a Busted Lip

Due to all of the rain and flooding, it was decided that Casen's final game would be played indoors and the end of season party they planned on having was cancelled. Casen did not mind either way - he was just glad to play.

Casen and Coach Dylan

I must say it was an interesting season with him. Luckily, it was MUCH improved from his previous season which consisted of a lot of crying and not wanting to play. He loved playing this season, however aside from the very first game of the season, he was not really aggressive. He would choose to run along side of his friends, aside from the occasional kicking the ball or running down field with the ball. I do believe he scored almost every game, and sometimes made multiple goals, however he just had no aggressiveness. Maybe if we had put Camden on the field against him he would have played different, because gosh knows when the boys play here at home they are both so rough and aggressive. Maybe in due time. . . . .

Nicely jogging down the field

Bless - that hair was a hot mess

While I was with Casen watching his game and celebrating the end of the season, Shane was helping coach Camden's baseball game. After both of the boy's games were over, we met back up to head home and it was obvious Camden had a busted lip. What the heck did this momma miss? Well story has it that Camden was playing third base when a ball that was grounded to him, took a hop right when it got to him and jumped up and hit him in the lip. Camden fell to the ground in pain and was evidently bleeding. He was in obvious pain and immediately his lip started swelling. He wanted to sit out of the game for a bit, however we were missing a few players, and if Camden did not play the umpire was going to make our team forfeit the game. Shane talked with Camden and he agreed to stand out in left field for a bit. After he got himself together, he returned to the game and finished the game strong. We are so proud of the team player Camden is.

Camden received two stickers on
his helmet today for such a great
 game and great sportsmanship

Alabama Baseball

This evening we headed to College Station to watch Alabama vs. A&M in baseball. This was the first time we have been to Blue Bell field, and I must say it is a very nice stadium. The boys had a great time in their Alabama gear sitting amongst the A&M fans in the student section.

We sat by a very nice girl who is from the area we currently live in. She and I got to chatting about all  sorts of different things and the next thing I know she left to get something to eat and returned with a pint of Blue Bell Cookies 'n' Cream ice cream for the boys. How sweet was that?

Enjoying their Blue Bell ice cream
I honestly hate to admit this, but I would not mind for a second if my boys went to college at Texas A&M. I love the traditions of the school as well as the camaraderie you see there (don't tell Shane I said that!).

The 500 Year Flood

All I can say is we are sooooo blessed!!!! On Sunday night, a heavy rain started that did not end until Monday morning. It was so heavy all night long and never let up. I did not sleep well at all, due to all the thunder, lightning, and not stop rain hitting our bedroom windows. I never got up out of bed to check things out side, honestly, I didn't even think to do it. So much to my surprise when I received a call from our school district early Monday morning saying that we were not having school due to the rain and flooding, I was surprised. Next thing I know, Shane too received a phone call saying they were not having school. We turned on the TV and the news was full of devastation. The flooding was horrible all around us. People could not leave their homes due to all of the water, and many of my friends in this area ended up with water in their homes. Our neighborhood was extremely fortunate. The retention pond for our neighborhood was filled to the brim, which we have never seen, and some roads had water in them, however the water was no where near our home. Sad to say, the neighborhood less than a mile from us that has million dollar homes in it did not fare as well as our neighborhood.

The retention pond for our neighborhood.
By Tuesday, the sun was bright and shining, however the flooding was only worsening for those that live near the creeks that go through our area. The creeks were rising with no reprieve for many. Horses were being rescued from nearby stables, people were being rescued by boats out of their homes and the devastation was worsening. Again, we were out of school due to some of the schools in our district being flooded and many people not being able to get out of their neighborhoods to get to work or school.

It ended up that Casen and I had no school all week. Shane and Camden went back to school on Thursday since Tomball did not have as much flooding as Cypress did. Since Casen and I had no school, we headed to the Woodlands today and met Lisa, Finn and Lorrie for lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. That was a special treat for us all! Casen's first time to have cheesecake and he loved it. He chose the Oreo Cheesecake which was YUMMY! You know you must make the best of bad situations! : )

Kindergarten Field Trip and Donuts with Dad

This morning at Casen's school was donuts with Dad. That meant Shane got to take Casen to school which was a rare treat for Casen. They had fun eating donuts and Shane received a fun gift from Casen. Since they love Camden and always love to see him, he too got to enjoy donuts with Shane and Casen.

Love this picture!

Out of the mouths of babes! LOL

Today Camden went on his Kindergarten field trip to the Oil Ranch. He has been so excited about this for the past month - mainly because he gets to ride the bus (his first time ever). When he came home with the paperwork about the field trip I got excited because I could sign up to be a chaperone. Woo Hoo! Maybe I could milk another cow!!! When I mentioned to Camden that I was excited because I could take off and go with him, he burst my bubble by telling me he did not want me to go, that he instead wanted to hang out with his friends without me there. Really????? I must say I was not prepared for him to not want me there at the age of 6 . . . . do I embarrass him???

Luckily Olivia's mom was kind enough to take pictures for me. Camden said he had a great time and from the looks of the pictures, he did. Maybe when it is Casen's turn to go, he will let me be a chaperone since he is such a momma's boy!

The Twins Birthday and Baptism

This weekend was a big weekend for my good friend Lisa's twins, Madison and Finn. On Saturday we celebrated their first birthday while enjoying good friends and food.

On Sunday, both of the kids were baptized and Lisa asked her friend Shannon and myself to be the godparents. It is such an honor to be able to help ensure the twins live a Christian life and support them in their life in Christ.

9 Years and Counting

Today marked Shane and my 9th year Wedding anniversary.

I was surprised this weekend when he gave me my anniversary gift. I have always had my eye on Kendra Scott jewelry, however have never expressed to him that I would like any. He knows me all too well, and picked just the right necklace and earrings for me, since I hardly wear jewelry like the big signature Kendra Scott dangly earrings. We also were able to go out to eat and go to a movie for our anniversary while Nana and Poppa Ron watched the boys. Yea!!!
