Go Texan Day

Today both boy's celebrated Go Texan day at their schools. Of course, they were encouraged to dress up as cowboys. Aside from a big belt buckle and boots, we can dress the part. :)

Another Tooth Gone

Today I stayed home from school, plastered to the couch, due to the stomach bug. When the boys got home from school, Camden was talking to me from a distance and it appeared his tooth was rather loose, but when I asked him about it, he just shrugged it off. Shane took the boys upstairs, to be away from me and the germs and later in the evening I all of a sudden heard Camden yelling with excitement that his tooth fell out. He came down, again from a distance, and showed me his new hole. Shane took pictures for me to mark the momentous occasion. I guess the tooth fairy will again be making an appearance tonight!

Baseball Season Begins

I honestly don't even know where to begin with this whole baseball thing. Really, from day to day I am not sure I even know what we are doing with it. So it started out that we signed up Camden to play baseball with the Farm League. Easy enough, right? There were a few boys (Jack and Landon) from his soccer team that we have played with for several seasons and enjoy their families that also signed up for the same league and put that they wanted to be on the same team as Camden. Yea . . . . or so we thought! Another boy that was also on their soccer team, who we like the boy, but no so much the overbearing mother who does not play nice with other parents, also signed up. Well, the coaches were going to be one gentleman we did not know and then Jack's dad which was all great, until Jack found out that he should be on a different team due to his age. So low and behold, the husband of the overbearing mom stepped up. Shane and Camden went to one practice and after the practice went not so well and the over bearing mom had a yelling match with one of the other parents, Shane decided that was not the team for us. So after researching, Shane found another select team that plays with the Farm League, called the Houston Gamblers. Camden tried out for the 6U team, and made it. They seem to be a good little team, who the majority of the boys all played together last year. The 6U team will be playing against 7U teams in the league - talk about intimidating.

They had a scrimmage Thursday night and it was really fun to watch because they played, as a team, unlike our previous T-ball experience. We are now in coach pitch and it is fun to watch. However, I have learned that I am a much better soccer mom than I am a baseball mom . . . hopefully I will improve with that over time.

My #51.

Run Day

Today, Camden had 'Run Wild' Day at his school, which is a yearly fund raiser. One thing you may not know about Camden, since we have just really noticed it this year, is that he is extremely competitive when it comes to running. During PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays, it is run day where they run laps for 25 minutes, accumulating popsicle sticks with each lap they run. Generally Camden gets 9 popsicle sticks and seems to get more laps than his other classmates. He loves run days and is always looking forward to them.

Today, with Shane watching on, Camden made 13 laps in 25 minutes. One lap was 0.2 miles. So basically he ran 2 3/5 miles in 25 minutes. The coaches thought the top 4th grader ran 14 laps. Holy cow! Let me just say he was very proud of his accomplishment - rightfully so. I was so sad I was not there to watch him and cheer him on.

Camden is on the right, just getting started with his class.
He is always smiling.

Name writing

This morning I asked Casen if he would like to sign a card for his teacher's birthday, thinking he would just do his normal scribbling. Much to my surprise, he could write his name - and not just his first name but also his last name as well. Apparently, I don't give him enough credit!

Birthday Celebration

When asked what kind of birthday party he wanted this year, Camden again wanted a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle party.

My first thought was how they heck were we going to top the awesome cake that my mom made last year. Luckily, since it was a 'non-birthday party year' I wasn't feeling as much pressure. So I asked Camden what kind of cake he wanted weeks ago and was told that he wanted an M&M ice cream cake. Perfect!!! That would be easy, I could buy one of those . . . or so I thought. After looking around, it seems no one makes an ice cream cake with M&Ms. One of the local ice cream shops makes an ice cream pie, and when I mentioned that to Camden, he told me that is not what he wanted, he wanted a cake. So after getting more specifics from him, it was evident he wanted literally just M&Ms and ice cream and no real cake. So of course I turned to Pinterest to help me out and when I showed him some pictures of what I found he knew without a doubt exactly the cake he wanted. I made it as close to the picture as I could (because truth be known if it were up to me, I would have just thrown the M&Ms on top, because I thought that not only it would be easier, but I liked the way it looked better). But if you recall from previous years and Camden's birthday cakes - he has a vision of how he wants them and since it is his birthday, I like to oblige his request. So his request was that the M&Ms be placed strategically on the cake to make a circular pattern. I know it is not perfect, but hey, I did the best I could and he was thrilled with it!

We started his birthday celebration by having Shane's parents and sister and her family meet us at our house and then we all headed over to Bouncin' Bears for the boys to expend some energy. They had a great time jumping, sliding and playing on all of the blow ups.

We then had a 'make your own pizza bar' which I never once thought about taking a picture of. : ( But everyone made their own mini pizza with whatever topping suited their fancy.

They boys with their mini pizzas.
We then sang happy birthday and dug into the cake.

Afterwards, Camden opened his birthday presents.

Everyone then packed up in their cars and headed over to Casen's first 'friendly' soccer game of the season. It was definitely a fun day!

And we can't forget our yearly birthday questions. As you recall, every year I ask Camden a set of questions on his birthday to see what his answers are and how much they change from year to year. These are his answers this year:

The Tooth Fairy and the Bad Finger

Camden has said a few things lately that just crack me up!

On the way to church last Sunday, Camden and I had the following conversation:

Camden: Is there such thing as a bad finger:
Me: Uhh, yes. Why?
Camden: But I like my middle finger! (as he was staring at it)
Me: How did you hear about this? Who told you there was a bad finger?
Camden: Nobody.
Me: Was it someone at school?
Camden: Yes. Katie and Aubrey.
Me: Aubrey?
Camden: Yes, you know the one that said 'shut up'.
Me: Oh, yes.
Camden: How come you never told me?
Me: I just didn't think you needed to know that yet.

I got so tickled because when he told me he like his middle finger, he was looking at it like he couldn't figure out why it was bad. :) He is so naive not having any older siblings (as the two girls who told him about the middle finger both have older siblings which I guess is where they learned it from). It really makes me sad that his little brain is being corrupted at school, however I guess that is the reality of the world we live in.

This morning he came down the stairs to show me what the Tooth Fairy left him.

Camden: The Tooth Fairy came! Look what she left me?
Me: Awesome!
Camden: It has a 'one' on it and George Washington's face - I recognized his hair.
Me: : )

I love how literal he is at this age.

For his birthday dinner tonight, Camden picked our favorite local Mexican restaurant. Melissa and her family came to celebrate with us. Of course to celebrate birthdays there, they bring out a big sombrero, as well as a sopapilla with whipped creme which they usually put on your face. Camden's biggest request was no whip cream! He had a hard enough time wearing the sombrero, but he did it despite his shyness.

Camden's 6th Birthday

Today is Camden's 6th Birthday, and as with every year, he could not be any more excited! It was going to be a busy day, since he had school and then basketball practice, so he knew we were going to have to spread out his birthday celebrations.

At the school Camden goes to, the kids are able to bring something to lunch to share with their classmates to celebrate their birthday. Camden wanted a cookie cake with Leonardo on it (imagine that!). I was surprised that he wanted a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle theme again this year, but according to him, "I just really like them!" So $37.99 later, I got a cookie cake from The Great American Cookie Company for him to take - what happened to those things being like $20??? But since this is a 'non-birthday party year' (per Shane) I figured $37.99 was a deal compared to the hundreds I normally spend on a party! And of course, after seeing it, he was beyond thrilled!

When he got home from school, he was playing with some toys and Shane asked me to look at his tooth that seemed very loose. I looked at it and it indeed seemed very loose, so I told Camden to just twist it. Well, he did just that and the tooth came right out. Honestly, I think that was the best birthday present he could have received. He was so excited that he FINALLY lost a tooth!!!

After basketball practice, we came home and Camden decided he just wanted to open one gift and then he would open another tomorrow, and then another the next day until they were all opened. After he opened his first gift, he decided he wanted to open another, and then another, and then he had two left and decided he would open one of them and Casen could open the other. Guess his original plan went right out the window! Of course, he got more Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle stuff,
namely another Leonardo guy (which makes about 6 or so Leonardo's we have) and some Legos - all of his favorites!

And what is more exciting for Camden is that his birthday celebration will continue tomorrow and next weekend when we celebrate with family.
