Memorial Day Weekend

We had Camden's Memorial Day Cup which they played 2 games on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. I will admit our bracket was pretty easy to get through, but the final was the winner of our bracket and another bracket and that made for an amazing final game. There were a few players, #4 and #99 I am talking to you, on the other team who were dirty players. I love that our team can fight hard, play clean and still come out on top. Final score 1-0. It was a hard fought game and well deserved.

"Let's go!!!!" he yelled after his team scored.

Casen also had a Memorial Day tournament and had 2 games on Saturday as well as 3 on Sunday. Due to soccer, Camden and I were only able to see the semifinal and final games on Sunday. Up until the last inning we had high hopes that both our boys were going to win their championship. We were the home team and going into the final inning, we were ahead 9-3. But then we walked a lot of batters, they got a few hits and unfortunately, despite a few runs ourselves in the bottom of the inning, we ended up losing 12-11. Ugh!!!!!

It has been an interesting season, as in the past 2 weeks we have lost 3 of our players . . .

Last Day of School

It is so hard to believe we made it to the end of the 2020-2021 school year (well at least for Shane and the boys - I have another week to go). We were so fortunate that no one in our family ever had to quarantine and no one missed any school. The boys were both supposed to have field days this past week, but due to an abnormally high amount of rain every day, they were both cancelled. However, they will each have an End of the Year Party today, but of course, no parents are allowed. Luckily, today is the last day the boys have to wear masks to school as they have said that as of tomorrow, no masks will be required in TISD.

Upon leaving school for their last day, I requested they each get a picture with their teachers. Not having school events where parents could attend was difficult - I felt like I never was able to really get to know their teachers. But gosh, we were oh so fortunate for great teachers this year. Camden loved both of his teachers, but Ms. Whitley does, and I think always will, hold a special place in his heart. She is one of those 'once in a lifetime teachers' and he has learned so many great things from her aside from 5th grade curriculum, including (but definitely not limited to) a love for great 80's music and how to care for reptiles! I am keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't go anywhere for a few years so Casen can also experience having her as a teacher.

Shane was able to accomplish getting Camden's pictures, and I emailed Casen's teachers and got back the sweetest pic.

At their 'End of the Year Party' the 3rd grade class received a T-shirt and each of Casen's classmates signed it.

Casen received 2nd place in the Mileage Club and placed first in the Fitnessgram Curl-Ups. I did not realize he was upset that he did not receive first in Mileage Club, but his PE coach asked Shane if he was OK as she noticed he was upset after not receiving first. The student that did get first was not in his PE class, so I think he did not even realize that anyone was ahead of him. Regardless, I am super proud of him!

Exciting Happenings

We have had some exciting happenings going on in the Hood household the past few weeks that of course I must document!

First, Camden lost yet another tooth on May 18th. It was one of his molars on the upper right side.

He then turned around and lost yet another tooth on May 24th on the same side, which has left him with quite the gap on the upper right side of his mouth. But honestly, no one will notice because he is always wearing a mask. LOL!!

On May 25th, Camden received two awards, the first being the Certificate of Achievement which acknowledged that he had straight A's each grading period, Perfect Attendance and a Character Award for the second grading period. He also received his Accelerated Reader Award for getting 100 points.

We also found out recently that Casen tested into the GT program - Yay!!! From my little turd who a few years ago finally admitted that he intentionally did not do well on the test because he did not want to be in GT, to my smart boy who actually tried this go around and got in without a problem! Amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it!!

Casen finally lost his right upper incisor today, just in time for the last day of school tomorrow.

Mother's Day 2021

When asked what I wanted for Mother's Day, I asked for a trip to the Zoo. The boys and I have been wanting to go since Christmas 2019, but between sports and then COVID, we never were able to go. And, I would much rather fun memories than gifts, so I figured it was the perfect thing!

I first opened up my cards and hand made gifts from Casen and on our way out we stopped and took a picture in front of the chalk art that someone in our neighborhood does often on her fence for the neighborhood to enjoy. We then headed downtown. We had a good time seeing all the animals and learning some new and interesting facts.

The beautiful chalk art!

Sleeping so soundly

They had a Mother's Day celebration too!

It was a fun day making memories and enjoying time with my family!

A Few Happenings

Last Friday Casen received two awards at school. His first was 'All A's for the 3rd Nine Weeks' and the other was a Character Award for 'Demonstrating the Life Principle of Respect'. Camden no longer receives awards every nine weeks, but he too has had all A's.

I love that my boys make good grades, but grades are not everything. I pray we are raising them to be kind and compassionate individuals who display respect and understanding to others.

On Tuesday, Braden had the last band concert of his career. It was a percussion concert and the seniors all performed pieces either in a duo or group to show off their talent. Braden and Shawn played a piece together and did an awesome job.

Today, Camden did a thing and is trying a new hairstyle. Honestly, I was shocked that he was ready to leave the mohawk because he said he would ALWAYS have a mohawk. I guess he is growing up . . . .

He is looking so grown!
