Busy But Fun Filled Weekend

We had a fun filled busy weekend that involved a lot of family and different activities. We started our weekend off with the boys and I going to Braden's indoor drum line performance. This was Bridgelands first year to have an indoor unit and they started out in one class, but were doing so great they got moved up to another class and have done so well that they earned themselves the opportunity to advance to state contest in a week. It was an awesome performance and since I had not ever experienced an indoor performance like this, I was very impressed to say the least. Those kids do nothing but move the entire time while carrying heavy equipment and playing their instruments. Quite impressive!

On Saturday morning we all rose bright and early and headed to Casen's first baseball game of a tournament weekend. Nana and Poppa came to the house early enough to ride with us to the game. As expected, we got beat, which was the same for the game later that day, as well as the game on Sunday. To say we are not having a winning season is an understatement. The team is young and, well, there are a lot of errors. Luckily, Casen seems to be loving every minute of it, is doing well and is learning a lot - including how to be a short stop.

Snagged it!

The look of determination.

The weather went from pleasant yesterday to
 freezing today.

On Sunday afternoon, Camden had a soccer game which we about froze watching. But Camden played well and scored a goal, which Poppa would say was for him! :)

This pic is right after Camden scored his goal -
I love how Coach Mark is smiling in the background.

First Grade Field Trip 2019

Today was Casen's first grade field trip to 7 Acre Wood in Conroe. He was so excited that I would be chaperoning his field trip. Honestly, I think I love going on field trips as much as my boys do! Since there were quite a few parent chaperones, we originally were each assigned our own child plus a buddy, but since a few parents did not show up, some of us ended up with 3 kids in our group. While this doesn't seem like much, let me tell you when you have a kiddo in your group that is not the best listener, it makes for a challenging time. I should have asked Casen ahead of time about who his original buddy was going to be and if he got in trouble in class often - it might have better prepared me . . . luckily our add on kiddo was not a problem. I definitely had to stay on my toes to make sure that the wild one was not running around hitting people with his putt putt golf club or ball, or knocking over people's toys or cutting in line. . . . needless to say I was a bit wore out by the time the field trip was coming to an end. Fortunately, it was a beautiful day and despite staying on high alert, I enjoyed being able to see Casen have a great time with his first grade classmates.

The baby goats were soooo cute!

Spring Break 2019

This week has been Spring Break for us. We were all so ready to have a week off from school where we could relax and not worry about sports or school. We did not do anything huge, but did go to the movies to see How to Train Your Dragon 3 and then went to Kerrville for a few days to enjoy the grandparents.
Grandpa teaching the boys how to tie a fishing knot.

We tried our luck at fishing, but there was
a storm the night before and the fish weren't biting.
Dad, Mom and I went and visited with grandma for awhile. We had a fun time playing dominos while laughing and joking with grandma. We truly spent the majority of our time laughing - I absolutely adore times like these. I know just how blessed I am to still have my grandma around at my age and value ever ounce of time I have with her.

Since the weather was beautiful, we decided to go to visit Enchanted Rock on Thursday. It was neat to be able to climb this huge granite rock and look at the 360 degree views of the hill country from the top. Camden especially loved climbing the rock and was ready to climb it more than once!

Some of the climb was pretty steep.
It was very windy at the top.

Beautiful view from the top.

Shane, the boys and I went back to visit grandma one last time before we left on Friday. We again played dominoes with her. I must throw it in for posterity, because it doesn't happen often, that I won dominoes both days we played. Woo Hoo!!!!

We came back to Cypress on Friday for Casen to go to a birthday party for one of his baseball teammates over the weekend. It was great to relax and prepare for the last few months of school. Luckily, it won't be long before summer is upon us!

Run Wild at the Creek 2019

Today was Run Wild at the Creek at the boy's school, which is fun fund raiser for the school. The kids run laps during their 'specials' time and get to enjoy a popsicle and have fun running to see who can get the most laps in their class. Unfortunately, I generally do not attend this event, but since Shane's school is next door, he is able to go over and watch the boys and cheer them on while they run.

Hot, but happy.

Casen and his crazy hair!

Both boys received a medal for
being the fastest boy in their class.

Sports Filled Weekend

My parents came in town this weekend to watch their grandsons participate in the activities they love. We started off the weekend Friday night by going to Braden's soccer game. This year he transferred to Bridgeland High School to be at the school where his dad is the head band director. I am not going to lie, I was worried sick about him transferring schools since he has been with all his same friends for the past 10 years, but luckily it looks like it has been a good move for him in regards to both academics and his extracurricular activities. I enjoy watching him on the soccer field and was glad we were able to go and support him.

On Saturday morning, Camden, Shane and I all headed out to the Berry Center for the Superintendent Fun Run. Casen had a baseball tournament later that day, so we did not think he needed to be running a 5K prior to the race. He stayed with my parents and they went and watched Braden perform in an in-door drum line competition while Camden and I ran and Shane cheered us on.

I have been doing next to nothing as far as exercise so to say the least I was no where near prepared to run a 5K. Camden on the other hand, well he is young and can run and run and run. So I had him run with my friend, Coach Mann, who runs a 5K nearly every day while I just hung back and did my own thing. He enjoyed running with her and finished the race in 25:11, which was 4 minutes faster than last year. He ended up 2nd in his age bracket. One of the sports Coach Mann coaches is cross country and long distance running and she was very complimentary of Camden and how he runs. Now if I could just get him to wear running shoes instead of indoor soccer shoes . . .

Before the race - all smiles!
Stopped to take a picture with my 'sister'. Officer Jernigan
is the officer at my school and she helps me in the clinic
a lot. She tells students we are sisters - different mom,
same dad and she has some of them convinced. They
even think we look alike!

Camden and Coach Mann - she won
first in her age bracket!
Later that evening Casen had a baseball game and 6:00pm and then at 8:30pm at Baseball USA. Since we have had sooooo much rain, Casen's team has literally only practiced outside maybe 3 times. Otherwise they just have indoor practices. That being said, we were not expecting much as far as field work from his team. Between the rain and the fact that this is a new team and it is made up of 5 and 6 year olds, we were not expecting much. Good thing we weren't expecting much because we got spanked in both games. I will say, Casen made the only homerun on his team by hitting an amazing ball that made it way out into centerfield and he was able to make it home before the ball got to him at home.

Today, we had to be at the ball field this morning for our final game. The weather turned colder today so we bundled up to stay warm in the stands. We, of course, again got spanked - which truthfully turned out to be good for us because that meant Shane and Casen could make it to Camden's soccer game, which would not have been the case had Casen's team won the game. Hopefully the weather will improve and the boys can start having more outdoor practices to better learn their positions.

We then headed to the Woodlands for Camden's soccer game. It was even colder there since there is nothing to block the wind. Between the cold, drizzle and the pollen, it was rather miserable outside. But, Camden played well and his team tied 3-3 with the other team. It was a very even and enjoyable game to watch. My parents left from there to head back to Kerrville. We were so glad the weather held out all weekend so that they could see all the boys activities.

All bundled up ready to watch some soccer.
