Sports Filled Weekend

My parents came in town this weekend to watch their grandsons participate in the activities they love. We started off the weekend Friday night by going to Braden's soccer game. This year he transferred to Bridgeland High School to be at the school where his dad is the head band director. I am not going to lie, I was worried sick about him transferring schools since he has been with all his same friends for the past 10 years, but luckily it looks like it has been a good move for him in regards to both academics and his extracurricular activities. I enjoy watching him on the soccer field and was glad we were able to go and support him.

On Saturday morning, Camden, Shane and I all headed out to the Berry Center for the Superintendent Fun Run. Casen had a baseball tournament later that day, so we did not think he needed to be running a 5K prior to the race. He stayed with my parents and they went and watched Braden perform in an in-door drum line competition while Camden and I ran and Shane cheered us on.

I have been doing next to nothing as far as exercise so to say the least I was no where near prepared to run a 5K. Camden on the other hand, well he is young and can run and run and run. So I had him run with my friend, Coach Mann, who runs a 5K nearly every day while I just hung back and did my own thing. He enjoyed running with her and finished the race in 25:11, which was 4 minutes faster than last year. He ended up 2nd in his age bracket. One of the sports Coach Mann coaches is cross country and long distance running and she was very complimentary of Camden and how he runs. Now if I could just get him to wear running shoes instead of indoor soccer shoes . . .

Before the race - all smiles!
Stopped to take a picture with my 'sister'. Officer Jernigan
is the officer at my school and she helps me in the clinic
a lot. She tells students we are sisters - different mom,
same dad and she has some of them convinced. They
even think we look alike!

Camden and Coach Mann - she won
first in her age bracket!
Later that evening Casen had a baseball game and 6:00pm and then at 8:30pm at Baseball USA. Since we have had sooooo much rain, Casen's team has literally only practiced outside maybe 3 times. Otherwise they just have indoor practices. That being said, we were not expecting much as far as field work from his team. Between the rain and the fact that this is a new team and it is made up of 5 and 6 year olds, we were not expecting much. Good thing we weren't expecting much because we got spanked in both games. I will say, Casen made the only homerun on his team by hitting an amazing ball that made it way out into centerfield and he was able to make it home before the ball got to him at home.

Today, we had to be at the ball field this morning for our final game. The weather turned colder today so we bundled up to stay warm in the stands. We, of course, again got spanked - which truthfully turned out to be good for us because that meant Shane and Casen could make it to Camden's soccer game, which would not have been the case had Casen's team won the game. Hopefully the weather will improve and the boys can start having more outdoor practices to better learn their positions.

We then headed to the Woodlands for Camden's soccer game. It was even colder there since there is nothing to block the wind. Between the cold, drizzle and the pollen, it was rather miserable outside. But, Camden played well and his team tied 3-3 with the other team. It was a very even and enjoyable game to watch. My parents left from there to head back to Kerrville. We were so glad the weather held out all weekend so that they could see all the boys activities.

All bundled up ready to watch some soccer.
