6 Weeks

Today Casen turned six weeks old and I had my six week follow up appointment with my OBGYN, Dr. Bruce. She examined me and said everything looked great, which I was thrilled to hear since it took me over ten weeks to heal after Camden due to my extensive tearing. I am now just to follow up with her for my yearly pap smear.

Casen is doing great - last night he went 5 1/2 hours between his night feeding, which is nice. Aside from that feeding, he generally only lasts two to three hours between feedings during the day. I must say I am more than ready for that time to extend because some days I feel like I do nothing but breastfeed. I have really started working on increasing my milk supply in the freezer in preparation for when I return to work. I have now been dairy free for 3 weeks which is no fun at all. However, I have found some vegan cheese, which tastes like cheese, however does not melt worth a flip, and also found some dairy free ice cream sandwiches, which taste great, however I am not sure they agree with Casen. I have only had one, but will make my final decision after I have another one. I would love to know what I do to my children to make them intolerant of dairy in their infant stage!

Three Week Old Pics

I have been meaning to share these wonderful pictures of Casen that were taken by my great friend Lorrie when he was 3 weeks old, but for some reason I forgot. Well, actually I remembered multiple times, but usually it was in the middle of feeding Casen, at which time I could not get to the computer and post them, and then by the time I would finish feeding him, I would forget or was tending to Camden, or fixing supper, or whatever else a mother of two does! So, with all that being said, as both my boys are napping, I finally am remembering to share these great photos with you! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!!!

Friday Favorites

We have had LOTS of rain over the past few days here in Houston, so we are having to stay inside, which makes life fun, however I have been able to capture some of the faces that Casen shares with us on a regular basis.

I get this look alot, which he gets honestly from his father!

He has mastered the pouty bottom lip.

The best picture I can get of him smiling - sort of.
Casen wore shoes for the first time Sunday to church

Camden got a haircut today and was so excited to receive a sucker!

Casen's First Road Trip

Camden and Casen gained another cousin while Gavin became a big brother to Malachi Wakefield. Shane's sister and her husband welcomed their new bundle of joy at 4:14 PM on Monday.

We decided to go and visit the newest addition to the Hood side of the family so made our way to Lumberton yesterday. Casen is on a schedule of eating between every 2 and 3 hours during the day, so I knew we would be cutting it close on him being content the entire trip. He fell asleep pretty much as soon as we left our house and slept until about 30 minutes from Shane's parents house when he woke up hungry. He managed to hang in there until we got to their house, nodding off and on  while waiting to be fed.

Camden was thrilled to see Gavin and as usual, enjoyed playing with him. All I can say is boys will be boys and they were wild and crazy while with one another. Casen got lots of loving from everyone, including the boys!

Today we made our way to the hospital and visited Kelsey, Shanelle and Malachi. Seeing Malachi made me realize just how much Casen has changed in almost 5 weeks and reminded me to cherish every moment with him because it goes by oh so fast!

Four Weeks

So it has been a month since Casen entered into this world! I still can't believe it!!! He has changed so much in the past 4 weeks it is crazy! He is definitely becoming the chunky monkey I was hoping for. I must say I never realized how hard it is to clean between those fat rolls since I have never had to do that before, but I LOVE it!!!! Today he gave me a real smile (which I am still trying to catch on camera) almost as if to say, "We have made it a month, mom!" We also retired our newborn clothes today and entered into the 3 month clothes. I can't believe how fast he is growing!

As for his stomach issues, the Colic Calm helped a little, but thing just did not seem right. So on Tuesday I became dairy free. The gas pains and irritability he was experiencing was a reminder of how Camden was prior to me omitting dairy from my diet, so I decided it was time, as much as I did not want to do it! I know, selfish, but it is really hard to forgo a lot of the foods I so dearly love - but in the long run it is definitely worth it. He has been much more pleasant since the diet change, so well worth it! I must say though that I think we are in a growth spurt because during the day he is eating every 2 hours again - ugh! I feel like all I do is nurse sometimes. But, during the night he is still going around 4 hours between his feedings.

He is so worth EVERYTHING!!!
I recall with Camden being peed on multiple times a day regardless of the tactics I tried to prevent it. With Casen that has not been the case. Instead, I get pooped on multiple times a day with him. Regardless of what I try, the minute I wipe his hiney, it some how stimulates him, and out it comes!!! I know, more than you wanted to know, but something I must remember for when he is older to black mail him with (just kidding)!!!

Yesterday he started tummy time and really does not mind it at all! He would lift his head, and move it from side to side. He even kicked his legs so much he turned a quarter of a turn on his mat.

And I leave you with this picture of Shane when he was 3 weeks old. I can't believe how much Casen looks like his daddy did.
