Today, under Dr. Taylor's (the pediatrician) recommendation, I took Camden to see an allergy doctor, Dr. Zambrano. She wanted us to see him to check up on Camden's egg allergy before receiving a flu shot. Dr. Zambrano was very nice and informative. After hearing Camden's history, he had the nurse preform a skin test on his back where he was tested for allergies to wheat, soy, egg white, peanuts and milk. The nurse wrote numbers on his back and then used very small needles that pricked his skin and placed serum with the food allergens under his skin. He was so wonderful and never even flinched when the nurse was doing it!
After sitting for 15 to 20 minutes to see if he had a reaction, no reaction occurred! YEA!!!! So, now what? Well, he said we can definitely try any foods that contain milk or egg but to just be aware that Camden may still have some stomach discomfort from it, which he feels he will grow out of. He said that we could of course try whole milk at 12 to 15 months, and if he had problems with it, then to wait 3 months and try again. He said it could be that Camden is lactose intolerant and if that be the case, then we may have to try lactose free milk.
I had felt like from the get go that what he had was an intolerance to milk and egg versus an allergy and that it would be something that he would grow out of, so it was so nice to receive that confirmation today!!!!
