On Friday we were scheduled to receive the new flooring in the kitchen. My parents were already planning on coming this weekend so that they could watch each of the boys participating in the events they love, so I asked if they could come on Thursday so they could be here for the floor installation.
On Thursday morning, as I was fixing the boys hair, Casen said, "Mom listen to this," and proceeded to cough for me. He had a nasty wet cough, but honestly he was not really coughing at all unless he made himself and otherwise was in great spirits. So, I gave him some cough syrup and sent him on his way. Apparently, Shane had his temp checked at school and again, it was fine. Unfortunately, 3 hours later, I received the dreaded call to pick up my feverish child.
Shane went and picked him up and had him lay on some mats in his office until I could get to him at my lunch time.
We went home and waited for my parents to arrive and then once they could take over, I headed back to work. So Casen hung out with my parents Thursday afternoon and then Friday he of course stayed home as well. They kept a close eye on his temperature, which through the night had gotten up over 103, however he went for several hours after the fever reducers wore off without a temp. And he did this multiple times. We would think that he was done with it all because he was hours without fever and then he would spike a temp.
On Friday night we all went to our favorite Mexican restaurant and met Melissa and her family there. The boys of course loved hanging out with Braden.
I checked on Casen before I headed to bed at 12:45 (of course I had already been sleeping on the couch) and he had fever so I gave him some medication then. He woke up fever free Saturday and was feeling pretty good. So that afternoon, we headed out to Katy to watch Braden march in the Area marching contest, which by the way they did amazing and earned straight 1's. This is Shawn's second year directing the band (as it is a new school) and they have come such a long way. I can't wait to see what next year hold for them!

After we left the marching contest, we headed to the outlet mall so my dad could pick up some new winter shirts. I noticed while we were there that Casen seemed to be acting quiet. So, being the good nurse I am (ha ha) I had my thermometer and Advil in my purse, just in case. Sure enough he had 101.1 Dang it!!!!! Why did we spike again??? Still, just the nasty little cough, now a little congestion and his temp that elevates with no rhyme or reason. I decided we should take him to the Redi-Clinic so if he had bronchitis or something going on, I could get him started on some medication so that he would be ready for school and Halloween. After hearing his complaints, the PA decided to test him for flu and strep. Before the timer could even go off for either test, the PA turned to me and said, "I do not have good news for you. Flu - type A." Nooooooooo. She said that she had seen her first case of flu that day and Casen was her second. And so it begins . . . . Can you imagine all the people we infected going all the places we went????? Luckily, he really has not been coughing to spread his germs that way. And he did not dip his chips in salsa at the Mexican restaurant or eat after anyone, so I can only hope and pray we did not spread it to anyone.
Today, he did not play his soccer game and again, has been fever free since his last dose of fever reducer that we gave him as we left the Redi-Clinic at 5:45. Hopefully, that pesky flu will be done with him, leave the rest of the family alone and we can get back to 'normal'.
