End of the School Year Illnesses

Tuesday was Camden's last dose of antibiotic after he was diagnosed with tonsilits (probable strep throat) 10 days prior. Thursday morning he woke up complaining of his throat hurting and had a slight fever so we sent him to school, with plans for Shane to take him to the doctor after I made him an appointment. Shane ended up taking him to Dr. Worrall after lunch and this time he was swabbed and diagnosed with strep throat. So this time he got a different antibiotic with hopes of it taking care of it this time.

Yesterday when I picked Casen up from school he felt warm to me and when he got home I found him to have a temperature of 101.7. He had no other symptoms, just fever. I had  a sneaking suspicion that since Camden had strep throat twice that perhaps his little body finally gave into it. So on Saturday morning I called the doctor and took him in. He tested negative for strep, however his throat was red, so the doctor said if it looks like a duck, walks like a ducks, and quacks like a duck, it just might be a duck. So he prescribed Amoxicillin and sent us on our way. The one thing I was happy about is that both boys were now on antibiotics, so hopefully they can make it until the end of school, since this seems to be when we cratered last year!

Splash-N-Dash and Birthday Fun

Let me just start by saying that I really do not like to celebrate my birthday. I honestly don't know why, I just don't. Fortunately for me, there were a lot of things planned this year on my birthday weekend that had nothing to do with my birthday, per se, however it made it a fun weekend! It all started on Friday when I entered my office and found all sorts of fun treats. My friends know me all too well!!

Then after school I went on a trip to the Astros game with over 100 kids from the athletics department at school. It brought back memories of riding the yellow dogs on band trips in high school - hanging out with your friends and having a good time. Luckily two of my awesome friends and co-workers went on this Astros trip which made it an extra fun time.

Me, Shana and Pam

While I was at the game, Shane took the boys to Wendy's, which Camden thought was a wonderful restaurant. (I think it was the Frostys that won him over).

On Saturday, the school where I work had their second annual Splash-N-Dash fun run, which basically is a color run. I signed Camden and myself up to participate, knowing how much Camden LOVES to run. Shane and Casen came for support, and to take pictures. : ) The fun run is a mile around the school grounds. Camden loved it so much we ran it three times around, each time getting more and more color on us!

I am so glad the school had a party on my birthday!!! Just kidding - but it was a fun way to spend our morning!

Camden's First Real Teeth Cleaning

Yesterday Camden and I went to the dentist for a routine check up and cleaning. Camden has been one other time to the dentist, but it was just a happy visit where they just looked at his teeth. So today he was a bit apprehensive about what was going to take place. The dental hygienist was just awesome with him. She made him feel so relaxed and even had him helping her suck the spit out of his mouth.

When the dentist checked his teeth I asked him about what the previous dentist told us about his back molars being 'chalky' most likely as a result of me being on IV prednisone while pregnant with Camden. He agreed and even noted that his bottom right tooth already had a little chip out of it. He recommended us taking him to a pediadontist in the future to have his back molars possibly capped. Can I tell you how sad that makes me? I know it is petty because they are baby teeth, but I really don't want Camden having silver caps in his mouth mainly because I do not want him scared of dentists the rest of his life. Otherwise, Camden's teeth looked great. After his check up he got several cool things! Dr. Wainwright gave him a card for a free scoop of ice cream at Baskin Robbins and he got to go to the treasure drawer where he asked the hygienist if he could get two things, one from him and one for Casen. (So sweet - always looking out for Casen).

While I was getting my teeth cleaned, Dr. Wainwright came and got Camden and took him to another room to have him pick out a survival bracelet. Apparently Dr. Wainwright makes these bracelets and gives them out to the kids. When he asked Camden what color he wanted, he of course said blue. Unfortunately he did not have a blue one in Camden's size but assured me he would make one. Sure enough the next day I received a call from the dentist office saying that Camden's bracelet was ready to be picked up! Soooo cool!

Mother's Day 2014

First of all, Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mothers out there, including my mother and my mother-in-law. Today is my fourth Mother's Day and I am so blessed to have my sweet boys. There were many years I wondered if I would ever get to experience being a mother. I am so grateful God chose me to be the mom of Camden and Casen.

My boys each presented me with gifts they had made at school. They always say that homemade gifts are the best and when it comes from your children, that statement could not be more true.

From Casen, I received a flower pot that had pictures made out of his cute little finger prints with a flower pen and Jolly Ranchers on the inside. From Camden, I received a silhouette of his head. Honestly, I absolutely loved it because my mom has one of my head from when I was probably a year or so older than Camden and I thought it was just awesome that I now have one of him.

I also received cards and an I-tunes gift card from Shane and the boys so I could down load music on my phone to listen to while I run. We had Chinese take out for lunch, since we really could not go out due to Camden being sick, and had a nice relaxing day. As you can tell from the pictures, Camden was fever free and feeling much better today thanks to the antibiotics! That in itself was a great Mother's Day present!!!!

Last Game of the Season

Yesterday when I picked Camden up from school the first thing he said to me was that his legs hurt. When we got in the car, he was a bit whiny and I noticed he felt hot. By the time we got home and I checked his temp, he was over 102. I medicated him and prayed that when he woke up this morning, he would be all better. But of course, that did not happen. So what do you do when it is your child's last game of the season and the team party is after the game? Well, you do what any great parent would do, you medicate him and send him out to play against your better judgement! So, he did not really play well at all, however he was glad to be playing with his team mates and was able to score one goal. It was a great ending to an awesome season. His Nana, Poppa Ron, Melissa and Braden also came to watch his final game.Since these kids have played together since Fall, they have made such vast improvements and do really well together.

After the game, Camden's team headed over to the park for their end of the season party. They played for awhile, then enjoyed some sweet treats and received their trophies.

and had no desire to smile for me
On our way home, we made a detour at the Redi-Clinic where Shane dropped Camden and I off while he took Casen home to stay with Nana and Poppa Ron while we figured out what was wrong with Camden. I had a sneaking suspicion that it was strep throat, since it is going around his school. Of course his temperature was over 102 when they checked him and the nurse practitioner looked in his throat and said it looked like strep but decided not to swab him for strep and instead decided to prescribe Amoxicillin and called in tonsillitis since the treatment for them are the same.

When we got home, Camden went and took a nap while I waited for Kroger to call me and tell me his antibiotic was in. After several hours and no call, I called them and they had not even received the prescription, so after multiple calls back and forth between the Redi-Clinic and Kroger, Camden's temperature spiking to 104.3 and six hours later, I finally got his antibiotic. Poor little guy, I felt so bad for him. On top of it all, he was supposed to go to his cousin Gavin's birthday party this evening but was unable to go due to being contagious. Hopefully tomorrow he will wake up feeling like a new guy!

100 Weeks Old

Today Casen turned 100 weeks old! He sounds so old! And really, he is getting sooooo big! Since this is a fun little mile marker, I figured I would share some fun facts and pictures about him.

      - He recently learned how to walk down the stairs

      - His favorite things to say are 'I like it' and 'I diddle it' (how he says 'I did it')
      - He refers to Camden as 'Brudder' and will mimic anything Camden does

      - He loves donuts and always eats them off of his finger

      - He is an awesome eater and will eat pretty much anything, unless it is green. He is like a little bird and           thinks he has to have a bite of anything that we are eating
      - He can easily open and close all the doors, regardless of the type of door knob
      - He loves to make messes

      - He loves to read books or have books read to him
      - He sleeps in crazy positions, including with his butt up in the air

      - His favorite color is 'lellow' (yellow)
      - He can count to ten, but usually skips 4 and 5
      - He loves to brush his teeth and likes to 'spit' like his brother
      - He is 'my little lover'

      - He still sucks on his index and middle finger on his right hand
      - He loves watching sports with his daddy on TV - I think football is his favorite

      - He loves to go to school, especially to see his friends and teachers
      - He loves to take a bath with his brother
      - He loves to see your 'belly, belly, belly'
      - He has a funny sense of humor

I can't believe that it has been 100 weeks since I first laid eyes on you. You have added so much to our family and I can't wait to see what your future holds.
