Appointment - 20 Weeks

Today was my five month appointment with my OBGYN and I was so apprehensive to go. Why, might you ask. Well if you recall at my last appointment I could not remember what my starting weight was so I had no idea was so I was unsure as to if I had gained a total of 5 or 7 pounds. Well, it was more than obvious that I have 'blossomed' over the past month, so I was scared to see what my weight gain not only for the month but for the entire pregnancy was. Well, let me say, it was NOT pretty. Seems as though at the last appointment I had only gained 5 pounds, but over the past month I have gained - are you ready for this???? - 7 pounds!!!! In case you are not a math person, that is 12 pounds total. I think what makes it worse is that I have heard my doctor tell me on more than one occasion (including today) that it is much harder to lose the weight after the second child. And. as you may recall, she really only wants me to gain 25 pounds, which leaves me 13 in the greatest weight gaining months of my pregnancy! So, perhaps I should cut back on some of the bad things I am eating and find some better things to eat and finally get my butt off the couch and start exercising! I will let you know how all of that goes. I will tell you at this time in my pregnancy with Camden I had only gained 10 pounds and my doctor in Alabama was recommending I gain between 25 and 35 pounds, so I had a little more room to grow.

20 Weeks

But enough about me and my weight, lets get to the baby. His heart rate was 147 bpm and he was measuring perfect! We once again discussed the due date since his measurements showed him to be due a bit sooner than the first ultrasound, and we decided we would stick to the original due date of June 9th. My next appointment will be the time to schedule the glucose test to test for gestational diabetes and she will also be doing the follow up on my thyroid as well as vitamin D levels.

And I will leave with a comment my doctor made to me which I found humourous, yet true. She said, " I just want to remind you that the next 8 weeks are probably the best time in your pregnancy. You will be feeling your best and then, it is all up hill from there!" She said that if someone had told her that this was the best time in her pregnancy she would have taken every ounce of it in because she was not one of those people that LOVED being pregnant. I can definitely relate to that! It is not that I dislike pregnancy, but I don't feel overly fabulous pregnant. I remember my sister absolutely LOVED being pregnant  and I think would have done it again and again had she had the opportunity. I just can't seem to relate to that.

I Guess It Was Time

I must say, up until today, we have avoided going to the doctor for respiratory issues for quiet sometime. Anytime Camden starts with his horrible cough, we pull out the breathing treatments and do our best to stay on top of it so it does not turn into anything that requires other medication. We battled a cough for almost two months in November and December, but it never got really bad or out of control where he needed to see the doctor. Well, over a week ago, Camden started with cold like symptoms which eventually moved down into his chest. We once again started his breathing treatments, but by yesterday, he was sounding worse. He had a low grade fever last night, but he when he woke up this morning, it was gone. I sent him to school, but by mid morning, I emailed the director of his daycare and asked if she would just check on him since he was not himself the night before. She emailed back and said she was just about to email me per his teacher's request because it was not even nap time yet and he was already laying on his nap mat. So, I made him an appointment and Shane took him in. Sure enough, he had a low grade fever and she diagnosed him with sinusitis which moved down into his chest causing some wheezing and he also had a left ear infection. She prescribed him Augmentin, Prednisone, Albuterol breathing treatments, as well as his daily inhaler and Zyrtec which we also use daily. Luckily the Prednisone is only for 4 days since that always seems to upset his sleeping. So hopefully by the weekend my little guy will be back in full force. He needs to be 100% by next Saturday, which is his 2nd birthday!

A Little Picky

Every Friday is sack lunch day at Camden's school. I generally pack a sandwich, a fruit cup, something a little on the sweet side (like a fruit bar or lately mini chocolate covered donuts) and some type of crackers. Since he has fallen in love with chips, I asked his teachers several weeks ago if it was OK to pack him some chips in his lunch. They did not see it as an issue, so for the past few weeks I have been putting a few Doritos in his lunch. Today, we did not have Doritos, so I packed some Fritos instead - which I know he eats. When I arrived at school today, I received his normal daily report. I did not read it until I was sitting at a stop light on the way home.

I had to laugh out loud when I read that he wanted Doritos instead of Fritos. Picky little fella! At least he knows what he wants.

Camden's Baby Brother

Yes, you read the entry title correctly, Camden is going to have a baby brother!!! Today Shane and I went to the maternal fetal specialist for the in-depth ultrasound and I am happy to say that everything was great!!! He measured a hair bigger than his original due date, but not enough to change the due date (7 days sooner by last menstrual period, but only 2 days sooner by last ultrasound). We saw his ten little fingers and ten little toes, his boy parts, and lots of other neat little ins and outs that they really don't focus on with a normal 20 week scan (which might I add the ultrasound took over an hour to perform).

Sweet little feet

This morning as I was getting Camden dressed I asked him if he thought he was having a baby brother or sister. Now, I am not certain he really has grasped the concept that mommy has a baby in her belly, but I threw the question out there and do you know what his answer was? A baby brother! He is pretty good!!

Since announcing the news to our closest friends and family today, I think everyone has been concerned that I am upset about having a boy. That being said, I am about to be brutally honest here and tell you that I was a bit relieved when we found out it was a boy. I honestly just assumed that I would have a boy, and then the Drano test said girl and I started panicking a bit. I think that is when I realized that perhaps a boy might be what we needed. That is not to say that I would have loved to have a girl, because I can definitely tell you I love all the dresses, bows, shoes and ruffles that go along with a girl. However, I know me and I was worried to death about being dirt poor spending money in every store I walked into on girl clothing. It does sadden me that I won't have a daughter to have that mother-daughter relationship with, especially as we age, but I know God has given us boys for a reason and I am going to embrace that wholly. Let me just say, I am excited and thrilled about our future consisting of a male dominant house - crazy right? Now, let the name searching begin!!!!

100 Weeks Old

I receive weekly updates from a website that informs me how old Camden is and how he should be progressing. Well, I do know how old my child is, however I know it by months, not weeks. But how exciting that this week I was informed that he is 100 weeks old!!! So, I thought I would spend a little time writing about different hings Camden likes or is doing.

Camden LOVES:
 - mexican food, namely chips and salsa and tacos
 - to kick his soccer ball
  - to throw the football
 - Kit Kats
 - to give hugs and kisses
 - to watch Yo Gabba Gabba (the one with Jack Black and the one where Muno's family visits)
 - babies
 - his Elmo slippers

 - donuts
 - to ride his bike
 - his sunglasses

 - to wear clothes that have a sports theme on them
 - to watch any sport on TV, including UFC wrestling
 - to dance
 - to sing (his favorites are Twinkle Twinkle, Bah Bah Black Sheep and the ABC's)
 - to read or to be read to
 - to play with his motorcycles and to see them on the road
 - school buses
 - his school, his friends and his teachers
 - ice cream
 - to take a bath
 - to slide and swing
 - Zach, the dog

I know there are plenty more things he loves, but those are the things we encounter or talk about on a daily basis. It is so fun watching him grow and to see his little personality grow, even if he can be a bit stubborn (wonder where he gets that from !?!?) Happy 100 Weeks Old Camden!

A Nice Visit

After spending a week of doing nothing but watching football and entertaining Camden, I was more than ready to get out of the house, especially since it seems a little someone is entering the terrible twos and testing both Shane and me at every opportunity. Shane started back to school today and I was not due back until tomorrow so Camden and I headed to my parents in Kerrville on New Year's Day. We had not been there since July 4th weekend and so we definitely needed to visit the grandmothers. Also, my Uncle John, whom I have not see in over ten years, was going to be staying at my parents so he could visit with my grandmother.

We had a great time visiting with family and my parents great neighbors. Camden really enjoyed meeting Uncle John. They threw the football to one another and Camden loved letting Uncle John tickle him. It was definitely great getting to see him.

New Years 2012

I must say I am not so sad about 2011 going and 2012 beginning. We had some ups and downs in 2011, but some great things did happen. We finally sold our house in Alabama and were able to find a nice home here in Cypress that we have enjoyed the past 6 months. Shane was able to find a teaching position, but unfortunately it really has not met his expectations. We found out we were pregnant and that will definitely be a big highlight of 2012 I am certain. Camden learned to walk and talk in 2011and since has not stopped moving or talking. He is so smart and amazes us daily.

For 2012 I look forward to continually watching Camden amaze us and make us laugh. He truly is a blessing in our family. I, of course, also look to the birth of our second child and beginning life as a family of four. I pray that everyone, including me, can easily adjust to the new changes that will be occurring in our household in 2012. I also pray for health and happiness for our family and really hope that Shane will be able to find the job that he is desiring to find.

May your families be blessed in this coming year!
