Field Day/Run Wild at the Creek

I took the day off of work to attend Casen's last elementary Field Day/Run Wild at the Creek. In the past (pre-COVID) field day and Run Wild were two separate events, with field day being at least three hours long. This year they combined the two into a 2 hour time span and I am not sure I was a fan of the change. The first hour the kids played games for field day, and then the last hour was a color run. Casen had a great time with his friends and did a great job running.

This evening, I went with my Bunco girls to do some pottery. I have always wanted to try my hand at a potter's wheel and it was really a fun experience.
And end up with a pot

We had lots of laughs and had a great time!

Frozen Shoulder

Sometime in January I started having issues with my left shoulder. In the past I have had some twinges of pain in the shoulder that resolved over time. Truthfully, I thought this was the same issue, however after a few weeks of horribly discomfort that would just about bring me to my knees if I moved my arm a certain way as well as the mobility in my arm decreasing, I knew it must be something worse. I had pretty much resolved myself to the fact that I somehow must have torn my rotator cuff and started researching what I was going to need to do to get it repaired. It appeared surgery was the only choice and I was not a fan! But in the midst of my research I came across this website that had a test you could do to see if it really was your rotator cuff. I could do some of the things that you shouldn't be able to do with a torn rotator cuff and it mentioned something about a possible frozen shoulder. I remember my mom having that when I was a kid, but did not remember the specifics about it. The more I read about it, the more convinced I was that that was my issue.

This was the highest I could raise
my left arm without excruciating pain

I made an appointment to see our favorite orthopedist, and on February 23rd saw Dr. George (who used to coach Casen in basketball) and after some x-rays and evaluation he confirmed frozen shoulder - thank the Lord. My options were to do nothing and it should resolve in two years (uh, no thank you) or I could go to physical therapy. I of course chose the later, so he scheduled me for PT, which I started on March 8th and went once a week for 6 weeks and did exercises at home to help it 'unfreeze'.

March 21 - raising it from the front

I am still not perfect, and but I am much better than I was.

Spring Break 2022

Spring break started with a very cold baseball tournament at Baseball USA. It isn't supposed to be cold like this, is it???? Luckily, Sunday was not as bad as Saturday in regards to cold temps.

The boys played great and went on to become the champions of the Dick's Sporting Goods Spring Slam 10U AAA tournament. And, with boys being boys, there were tons of jokes and giggles when they received their rings.

We headed to Kerrville on Monday to spend some time there with my parents.

Nina's spot during the car trip

Up to this week, my boys have never really be interested in driving the golf cart, which is crazy to me because I know as a kid, I would have been begging to drive. Seeing the trend of kids these days not caring about driving or getting their driver's license when they turn 16, I could easily see Camden (with his personality) falling in that group. So, about a month ago I told him that he was going to learn to drive the golf cart when we went to Kerrville. Since he is not one to step out of his comfort zone, he has fretted over it the past few weeks. We hadn't been at mom and dad's too long before I told him it was time to drive the golf cart. It took him all of a minute driving it before he realized how awesome it was and was ready to go take rides and drive it as often as he could. We talk often about all the things he could be missing out on due to the fear of the unknown. I pray he becomes more and more willing to step out of his comfort zone and try new things.

Since Camden learned how to drive the cart, Casen was right behind him ready to go. He, of course, was not the least bit nervous and is not as cautious . . .

On Thursday, which was St. Patrick's Day, everyone, except for my dad who is recovering from a hip replacement, headed to San Antonio so the boys could experience the River Walk as well as the Alamo. Even though he had never been there, Casen served as our own personal tour guide since  had learned all about the Alamo this year in school (thanks Mrs. Reese!).

We then headed over to the River Walk and took a ride on the river boat so the boys could hear some fun facts about the city. And as it tradition for St. Patrick's Day, they dye the water green.

Shane and the boys spent a lot of time at the pickle ball courts playing pickle ball. There might be a little competition out there and sometimes one or the other comes back a bit frustrated -LOL. But if it were up to Camden, he would have a pickle ball court in his back yard.

We had a good week and are ready to tackle the next few months of school and sports.
