With good ol' COVID still lingering, it was hard to make plans for Spring Break that included any real travel. So, we headed to Kerrville on Sunday with plans for me to see Grandma on Monday and then us taking the boys to Six Flags in San Antonio on Wednesday so we could ride some roller coasters.
My visit with grandma was great. When I arrived they told me she was just getting out of the shower and I thought to myself that the visit was going to be a lot of me watching her sleep. Much to my surprise, it was quite different. When I arrived in her room she was sitting up nicely in her wheelchair instead of being propped up in her recliner.
She was awake the entire time I was there, so we chatted and I fed her lunch. Her food these days is pureed and personally, just doesn't look overly appetizing. That is except for the chocolate pudding cup. So I gave her a bite of each of the foods on her plate, except for the vegetable. She declined that telling me that she has had plenty of vegetables in her lifetime. LOL. So we moved on to the pudding cup, which she ate about half of. She just really doesn't seem to be having that great of an appetite.
Not very appetizing. . . |
We of course took selfies and talked about her long hair. I swear I have never seen her hair that long. I took a picture of the back of her hair and showed it to her - she was quite surprised and referred to herself as 'a wooly ol' thing'. As I left, I spoke with the activities director and she said she would cut grandma's hair for us. I know grandma would greatly appreciate that and it would spruce her up a bit. :)
And one last photo before I left! |
While in Kerrville, the boys played pickle ball multiple times. They really enjoy playing and are getting really well. When I play with them, they fight over who will be on my team - which sounds great until you realize they are fighting because no one WANTS to be on my team. I may not be amazing, but I don't think I am that bad. :(
Wednesday morning we headed to San Antonio to Six Flags. With COVID, we had to make a reservation for our arrival time, which I chose 10:00, knowing the park opened at 10:30. Once we were allowed to head to rides, we ended up at the Wonder Woman. When we first got there, it did not appear that any rides were running, which we were contributing to the very windy conditions. However as the day progressed, we realized they would open up some rides and then close down others. I am sure they were short workers as San Antonio's spring break was the week prior so they didn't have a lot of students to help. Luckily, our choice of going to Wonder Woman was the correct choice because it was the first roller coaster to open, however they didn't even start running it until after 11:00am. After almost two hours of being at Six Flags, we finally rode our first ride. It had lots of twists and turns, however the boys were not a fan of it because you rode individually in each car, so there was no one on either side of you.
After we left there we stopped in a line for the Super Man, which wasn't even open at the moment but we were trying to get our bearings on where we were and where we were headed. It was a short line and right after we got there, they ended up opening the ride. So after only being in line for 30 minutes we got to ride it. Poor Camden was uncertain about the ride and rather nervous because you sit and your feet dangle. That, along with all the upside down loops and twists was more than he was ready for. But being the great parents we are, we highly encouraged him to ride it, and guess what, they both LOVED it. As soon as it stopped, they wanted to ride it again, so we stood in line and rode it again.
It ended up being a great day of riding multiple roller coasters, eating food and enjoying being together. There were a lot of things we did not get to do due to things not being open and lack of time, but regardless, we had a great time.
From the looks of things, Nina had a great time getting lovin' and playing with Grandpa while we were gone.
We headed home Thursday because Casen had baseball practice that evening. While he was there he had a run in with the fence. From the looks of things, the fence one.
And because I like to make note of milestones in my children's lives, Camden learned how to cut his own fingernails this week. Probably a mom fail that it took this long. :( But you know what they say about the little things . . .
We are in the pattern of playing tournaments every other weekend from this point forward this season so we had a tournament our last weekend of Spring Break. We played in the Spring Showdown tournament and ended up as the 9U AA champions. More hardware for Casen to add to his collection.
